LEED Information
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building System encourages global adoption on sustainable green building and landscape development practices through the implementation of universally accepted construction performance criteria. The LEED Green Building Rating system is the nationally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
Under the LEED Rating System section MATERIALS AND RESOURCES, J.R. Hoe construction products may qualify in the following categories:
CONSTRUCTION WASTE MANAGEMENT / (MR) Credits 2.1 and 2.2:
J.R. Hoe iron castings, as well as steel and aluminum fabrications are 100% recyclable and may be incorporated into the construction waste management plan for any project.
RECYCLED CONTENT / (MR) Credits 4.1 and 4.2:
Gray Iron Castings melted and manufactured at the JR Hoe Facility are produced from 84 % recycled material on average. Of that recycled melt stock, app. 66 % is post-consumer and 18 % pre-consumer material, therefore by LEED formula (Post-Consumer % + ½ Pre-Consumer Content ) JR Hoe gray iron castings contain 75 % LEED Recycled Content Value.
Fabrications may be sourced from regional steel mills that utilize from 82 to 99 % recycled material in production of structural steel shapes. JR Hoe may, upon request; supply mill material certifications for steel components utilized on a specific project that may be used to identify LEED recycled content.
REGIONAL MATERIALS / (MR) Credits 5.1 and 5.2:
JR Hoe iron castings are regionally produced. They are melted and manufactured at the JR Hoe facility in Kentucky / USA. Per LEED requirement the raw material content of the construction product must be recovered and processed within an 800 km (500 mile) radius of the project site. All recycled post-consumer melt stock materials that enter the JR Hoe casting process are regionally sourced. A map may be supplied showing the 500-mile radius from the JR Hoe facility.
